Davis-Standard can already feel that the forthcoming Medtec China — where it will present its broad range of tubing machinery at the stand P206 — will be action-packed for the company. The trade fair will take place in Shanghai this September 20 to 22. Davis-Standard will put on display extruders, control units, feed screws, downstream machinery and complete systems: everything that makes for an efficient modern production of tubing for medical use.

The company owns an internal R&D lab at its local subsidiary in Suzhou, boasting a high-performance system for FPVC extrusion, as well as a versatile line for multi-purpose small-ID tubing production. One line operated in the Suzhou lab of Davis-Standard can process 2...8 mm ±50 μm OD tubing from FPVC at the speed of 5...100 m/min. This line is equipped with one extruder, water cooling system, precision air supply, outer diameter gage, and a combined puller/cutter. The other one can produce single- or dual-layer single-lumen tubing; it has two extruders, a wall thickness measuring/monitoring system, close-loop control, and a central controller. Both lines assist process development for tubing manufacturers in the region.
Sekaran Murugaiah, Davis-Standard's vice president for business development in the Asia-Pacific region, realizes all the importance of Medtec for the company at the regional level. He is legitimately convinced that local customers value solid presence of Davis-Standard in the region with its state-of-the-art tubing research lab that allows for testing new polymers efficiently and in due time. The equipment from Davis-Standard can process medical grade resins — PA, PLA, PLLA, FPVC, PEEK, PU, FEP and PEBAX — for microbore, multi-lumen, catheter, tracheostomy and endotracheal, taper, pipette or bubble tubing, and the Alternate Polymer® technology. Complete medical tubing lines from the company enable material throughputs of up to 315 kg/h and speeds of up to 240 m/min. The extruder options available are flexible, tailored to specific customer and reasonably priced: the direct-drive MEDD, low-footprint HPE-H and HPE-A, the high-performance Super Blue®, and many more. Finally, the cutting-edge melt pump from Davis-Standard cuts down exposure to heat drastically and enables fine-tuning both process pressure and temperature.
