Solvay has recently commenced commercial production of engineering plastics from its new nylon compounding plant in Mexico. This manufacturing division has already reached its projected annual capacity of 10,000 tons focusing on Technyl® polyamide materials primarily for automotive applications.
The new facility is located in San Luis Potosí. It was delivered and initiated by Coperion GmbH side by side with Chunil Engineering Co. Ltd., a South Korean supplier specializing in automotive powertrain components and a major Solvay customer. The two companies are partially sharing the same infrastructure, collaborating on the power supply and waste treatment.
It's no wonder Solvay chose Mexico for its new facility as the country is the second largest player in the American car industry, being number 7 in the world rank. This growing market attracts international companies and many Solvay partners are already based in the same location. The plant's production capacity will likely be extended.
