In August 2017 Brabender started welcoming customers, distributors and colleagues to its new laboratory for plastics and rubber applications, which is located in the newly built Customer and Technology Center at Kulturstrasse 49 in Duisburg.
The Application Lab Chemical occupies a total area of 525 square meters, of which 306 square meters are lab facilities, and provides space for both customer and internal meetings as well as for customer-specific test set-ups. It is equipped with the following devices from the Brabender portfolio:
- Torque Rheometers
- Single Screw Extruders in typical lab sizes
- Twin Screw Extruders with feeding systems (volumetric/gravimetric)
- A range of different Extrusion Dies used as measuring or functional dies
- Film Quality Analyzer: automated visual inline analysis of extruded films

- Flat and blown films
- Compounding
- Wire sheathing
- Filament production
- Internal Mixers
- Absorptometer "C": determine oil absorption (OAN)
- Elatest : determine the density of vulcanized elastomer compounds
- Void Volume Meter: Porosity measurement via void volume method
The laboratory's functions include testing and evaluating prototypes and software modules as well as conducting feasibility studies.
Martin Schwarz, Head of Application Lab Chemical, and his team provide focused support to interested guests and customers and also advise on equipment enhancements, design customer-specific screw configurations and produce custom solutions on request. Brabender customers also get the opportunity to borrow equipment and components or to rent the entire lab with its team and know-how for tests.
