The systems des- cribed in the following sections are designed to provide wire and cable manufacturers with the state-of-the-art in process control technology. Specific parameters covered by these systems include diameter, ovality and wall thick- ness measurement. Also new are processors designed to provide on-line measurement and data acquisition, con- trol and display as well as quality monitoring. Besides the measuring, monitoring and control systems listed in the continuation, Zumbach offers other instru- ments, such as on-line profile measuring systems of con- tinuously manufactured profiles of any kind, X-ray mea- suring systems for pipe extrusion lines and CV lines, com- bined diameter and eccentricity measuring systems for communication cables and more. Wall Thickness Scanning: Thanks to their unique design, the transducers incorporated in UMAC ® scanners can be synchro- nously adjusted to the best possible measuring position within se- conds (motorized upon request). The scanners cover an outside diameter range from 5 to 180 mm (0.2" to 7"), depending on the model. They represent a smart and simple solution for fully non- contact, in-line wall thickness measurement of cable jackets, tube and hose. In combination with the proven WALLMASTER data acquisition, processing and display system from Zumbach, a full process control can additionally be accomplished. Advantages and benefits of the UMAC ® scanners include easy and fast product changes, quick and easy symmetrical position- ing of all transducers (centrally adjustable), four and six-point measurement availability, large measuring range, no readjust- ments of transducers needed, fully non contact uncritical centering, 100% construction from non corrosive materials for maintenance-free long-life underwater operation, extreme compactness for installation into cooling trough directly after the extruder, automatic control and easy centering. Laser Diameter Measurement: Laser diameter measuring heads are based on Zumbach’s vast experience, gained over many years of designing and manufacturing diameter gauges. Both are manufactured with modular designs, and they are available with a support rail or as an individual emitter and re- ceiver.
