Extrusion International USA 2-2019
29 Extrusion International 2/2019 Innovative Slitting and Winding Solutions presented GOEBEL IMS, the manufacturer of special machinery for converting web-based film, paper, aluminum foil and flex- ible packaging materials, exhibited at ICE USA. The company showcased its entire range of highly-advanced, innovative slitting and winding solutions: The slitter rewinders T 2 and the similar AP 22 offer maxi- mum productivity and high-quality processing of specialty and standard papers as well as aseptic packaging materials. The basic model of the T 2 features top winding quality at working widths of up to 2,200 mm and a rewind diameter of up to 1,800 mm. The T 2 allows conversion speeds of up to 1,200 m/min. All machines of this series work with a single- shaft center-driven winding concept equipped with an idle lay-on roller. They can be used as bi-directional inspection rewinders for repairing telescoped or damaged rolls as well as detecting defections. A fully automatic version is available with a variety of additional features, for example a handling GOEBEL IMS www.goebel-ims.com Laem System www.laemsystem.com/en/ and conveyor system for improved unloading and transport, which significantly increase the productivity and efficiency of the production process. For film applications, GOEBEL IMS has developed another state-of-the-art slitter rewinder that fulfills the special film industry’s latest demands for productivity and precision. The primary slitter INTERSLIT is suitable for converting packag- ing and special films such as capacitor films, battery separa- tor films or thick films for industrial or optical applications. Available either as a basic machine or with advanced techni- cal functions and automation technology, the new primary slitter processes widths between 4,000 mm and 7,000 mm and, thus, offers maximum flexibility while guaranteeing highest quality. Last but not least, printers and converters could discover a slitter rewinder for flexible packaging film at ICE USA. The strategic partner of GOEBEL IMS, Laem System, exhibited the RB Series. The dual-shaft slitter rewinders have a high degree of flexibility for converting large mother rolls (50” OD) into finished rolls of different widths and diameters. The ma- chines can process a wide variety of films (bi-oriented, barrier blown films, cast films) and laminates (aluminum foils and/ or paper) used in the flexible packaging industry as well as paper or self-adhesive substrates used in the label convert- ing industry. Mica Corporation, a global leader of water-based primers and coatings for the flexible converting industry since 1971, exhib- ited its commercial line of water-based PEI and EAA primers, along with its premiere Specialty Primer and Functional Coating products at one of the leading converting industry events this spring – ICE USA. Mica’s range of water-based PEI and EAA primers have been a staple in the converting industry for nearly five decades. All MICA PEI and EAA primers are water-based, single component, have no VOC’s, and have FDA compliance for non-direct food contact. The PEI’s, such as MICA A-131-X, MICA H-760-A, and MICA H-788, provide high bond strength to a variety of substrates and extrudates, and can provide heat and chemical resistance prop- erties to a multitude of structures. Mica’s PEI products provide varying performance levels, which make them ideal for many Mica Corporation www.mica-corp.com applications, including extrusion lamination, extrusion coating, hot cup stock, clay-coated paperboard, and ink adhesion. The EAA’s, such as MICA M-1164 and MICA G-1092, provide great adhesion, as well as chemical, water, and heat resistance properties, for metalized film and aluminum foil structures. In addition to its PEI and EAAprimers, Mica showcased solutions for oxygen barrier, surface modification, heat-seal, and other specialty primers and functional coating solutions for a variety of applications. For decades,Micahas beenpartneringwithglobal leaders in the converting industry to successfully develop custom solutions to promote adhesion to many substrates, extrudates, and unique applications.
