Extrusion International 4-2023-USA

35 Extrusion International 4/2022 In-the-Box Packaging Solutions for the US Market The POLIFILMGroup, one of the leading specialists for extrusion and protective films, continues to grow. The TRADING subgroup complements the existing business of RIPAC GmbH in Europe with an American offshoot. Like its German sister company, the newly founded sales company RIPAC America Inc. offers integration concepts for packing stations as well as the associated materials required for filling transport packaging, such as air cushions. Joseph M. La Grasta is responsible for the develop- ment of the US business. RIPAC GmbH and the expan- sion on the European market will remain unaffected by this under the management of Henny Ribbink. What unites the two sister companies is their portfo- lio approach. RIPAC stands not only for its well thought- out integration solutions in all markets, but also for the consistently pursued sustainable approach of its in-the- box packaging materials. Recyclability and the use of recycled materials are the focus of the companies. For example, the fully recyclable air pillow films are offered exclusively as recycled solutions (PCR and PIR) and some- times contain up to 100% recycled PE. Polifilm Gruppe www.polifilm.de 2022 Sustainability Report Released OrionS.A. released its 2022Sustain- ability Report that highlights a vari- ety of initiatives, including launch- ing four new sustainable products, conducting a Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions inventory and nearing the completion of a massive air emis- sions control project. The report’s “CEO Letter to Stake- holders” describes the magnitude, complexity and impact of the air emissions control initiative that started five years ago and is the big - gest sustainability-linked project in Orion’s history. The company will fulfill its commitments before sev - eral competitors despite that it has more production sites in the U.S. “All of us at Orion can look back at the past five years and feel an extreme amount of pride,” Orion CEO Corning Painter said. “We stayed committed during intense- ly trying times and honored our agreement to make our facilities cleaner, leading to a big impact for the environment and health in our communities.” A decade ago, Orion was the first major producer to develop and com- mercialize carbon black made from renewable feedstocks. The 2022 Sustainability Report covers how the company continues to be a leading innovator, launching four sustain- able products last year for the rubber industry: ECORAX ® Circular 210, 215, 220 and ECORAX ® Nature 200. “Supplying the growing demand for sustainable products and accel- erating the transition to a circular economy are key components of our strategy,” Painter said. “Orion as well as our customers are serious about making their raw materials fully sustainable. So we are heav- ily engaged in this area and work closely with our customers to devel- op solutions.” Another 2022 sustainability mile- stoneatOrion involved implementing a Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions inventory, which allows the company to develop a better understanding of the type of initiatives that would help reduce these emissions. Scope 3 emissions – those pro- duced by Orion’s value chain part- ners – currently account for less than 40% of the total of Orion’s greenhouse gas emissions. Thus, in parallel to reducing Scope 3 emis- sions together with value chain partners, the company continues to focus on the sources of greenhouse gas emissions that it can directly in- fluence, such as Scope 1 and 2 emis - sions.
