Meal kits is the new emerging trend on the online food market. As the ordered food parcel is to be delivered to the end-consumer, new challenges arise concerning keeping the stuff fresh and safe. And most of these challenges are packaging-specific. And this is where NOVA Chemicals steps in.
NOVA Chemicals Polyethylene section is offering several polyethylenes combining durability, sealant and barrier proprieties in different proportions.
The company has developed two multilayer polymer films with moisture barriers (one of them featuring an oxygen barrier as well) suitable as a primary package for most meal products. The new solutions have already been approved to be marked with Store Drop-Off label (part of How2Recycle labeling system).
NOVA Chemicals is currently working on reusable insulating vessels to serve customers subscribed for weekly meal kit deliveries. The developers are aiming at the two main issues: the vessels are to be comprehensive enough to provide proper temperature conditions for various kinds of food and at the same time recyclability factor is also very important as both brands and customers are more and more demanding for product sustainability. And of course the new food package is to be as protective as possible.
NOVA Chemicals is going to promote it new food packaging solutions at several upcoming conferences this spring.
