One of the latest examples for efforts of Direct Pack to develop more sustainable packaging is their collaboration with El Pollo Loco. Having been partners for years on part of El Pollo Loco’s customized take-out packaging, Direct Pack started working together to find the best solutions to replace their Styrofoam packaging too. Styrofoam is very bulky and difficult to recycle, and mostly end up in landfills.
Together both companies have developed new, innovative and more sustainable containers, partially made of recycled materials, that are rolling out in their stores right now: El Pollo Loco’s famous Fire-grilled Chicken are served in the new packaging from the end of May. Not only it is better for the environment, it is also sturdier, keeps the food hotter and improves the entire dining experience.
Direct Pack are proud of what their teams have achieved together. These new containers will remove 1.9 million cubic feet of Styrofoam — the equivalent of 21 Olympic-size swimming pools — from the national waste stream annually, and all clear El Pollo Loco lids can be recycled just like PET bottles.
