Tri-Seal, a business unit of Tekni-Plex, has introduced ProTecSealsTM – a new line of polypropylene (PP) foam closure liners for a wide variety of market applications, enabling up to 100% acceptance into the material recycling stream at municipal recycling facilities (MRF).
This new PP foam lining material is designed to work in tandem with PP closures to improve recycle stream reclamation, resulting in a recyclable, mono-material solution, according to DeAnn Umland, vice president, market and strategy development for beauty and home packaging at Tekni-Plex. Production available in both the United States and Europe, this material is ideal for many market field applications, including personal care, beauty, home care, agro-chemical, nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, food sauces and spreadables.
As verified by an independent third-party lab, the ProTecSeals liners are able to be identified by a correctly calibrated near infrared system (NIR) at the MRF as PP. This will enable the PP closure and liner to be correctly sorted into recycle stream #5.
ProTecSeals, when used with PP closures, help the customers to meet the EU 2030 target for recyclable plastic packaging without requiring consumers to perform any material separation before recycling. With this introduction, Tri-Seal provides a material lining solution addressing both customer and end consumer market sustainability needs.
