With immediate effect ALBIS distributes the brand new RE portfolio of REnewable attributed products of long-standing partner and material manufacturer Covestro. It contains more sustainable counterparts to existing fossil-based resins of renowned and established brands such as Makrolon®, Bayblend® and Makroblend®, thus addressing the ongoing challenges in today’s society concerning resource scarcity, climate and environmental protection. As an ISCC PLUS certified company, ALBIS is one of the first distribution partners of the new portfolio on the market.
By using attribution of bio-circular feedstock and renewable energy via mass balance approach, the new products Makrolon® RE, Bayblend® RE and Makroblend® RE will have significantly lower carbon footprint than their fossil-based counterparts, will reduce resource depletion and promote use of alternative materials, thus strengthening the circular economy. Selected Makrolon® RE products have zero carbon-footprint according reviewed LCA, making them the world’s first climate-neutral1 polycarbonate.
Performance and quality hereby are not compromised because the physical, mechanical, thermal, optical, weathering and processing properties of RE resins are identical to conventional fossil-based resin and are a drop-in solution to meet sustainability goals of plastics manufacturers and brand manufacturers worldwide. Regulatory listings valid for conventional products (e.g healthcare approvals, flammability ratings etc.) are also valid for the corresponding RE alternative.
“Covestro’s RE portfolio is great news for the market in every sense of the word, as it will serve as an attractive sustainable solution for almost every conceivable application”, says Horst Klink, CEO at ALBIS. “It is a very valuable addition to our world-leading plastics portfolio and we are confident that with our international presence and technical expertise, we will more than justify the trust placed in us by Covestro.”
