A complete portfolio for different markets. That is what Braskem, the largest thermoplastic resin producer in the Americas, introduced during the K Fair event in Düsseldorf, Germany. Supported by its strong focus on innovation, the petrochemical producer launched its new polyethylene (PE) resin, Braskem Flexus Cling, at the trade fair. The new resin was developed especially for extrusion processes for stretch films, which are used by manufacturers to protect cargo during transport, and reach the market to complement Braskem's current portfolio, which now includes complete solutions for the application.
The stretch film segment is one of the largest consumers of polyethylene, accounting for 6% of global production volume. The material's market includes producers of ceramic flooring, containers, cans, soft drinks, caps and closures, diapers, pulp and paper, freight carriers (road, air and maritime) and agriculture, as well as applications for the home.
The resin further expands the portfolio of the Flexus line, which is one of the company's polyethylene brands targeting the film segment. Braskem's new product present superior load retention and excellent cling performance, even at low temperatures. Films producing using the 100%-Braskem solution feature flexibility, high strength and excellent impact and puncture resistance, effectively imparting greater security during cargo handling and transportation.
"As part of our corporate strategy, we strive to offer clients increasingly efficient and competitive solutions. With the launch of Braskem Flexus Cling, we become a complete supplier to the stretch film segment, with resin options for all layers," said Edison Terra, Braskem's Polyethylene Director.
The new resin will be manufactured in Brazil and serve primarily the country's domestic market, but may be exported to specific markets.
