Wetting measurements for cleaned, pretreated, or coated surfaces directly in the production process: The mobile contact angle instrument Ayríís, developed by KRÜSS, offers new automation possibilities with communication via the OPC UA protocol.
The integration of Ayríís into a plasma treatment unit by Plasmatreat enables continuous quality control of the wettability of the samples before and after plasma treatment |
As a hand-held instrument, Ayríís performs wettability measurements almost without interruption. Thanks to the many advantages of the device, it is also particularly suitable for automated testing. For example, the measurement of the technologically innovative 3D Contact Angle is free from user intervention and the result is particularly reliable thanks to automatic consistency control – incorrect measurements are virtually ruled out. The surface inspection also outputs the surface energy as a measured value, is carried out with pure water, i.e. without hazardous substances, and takes just seconds.
With the industry standard OPC UA protocol, integration into a surrounding automation system is seamless and the design allows the device to be flexibly attached to any type of mount. This option offers a wide range of possibilities for combining measured date with test results for other sample properties, or correlating them with pretreatment or cleaning parameters. Ayríís has already had its first successful test in cooperation with Plasmatreat at the Battery Show 2024 in Stuttgart (Germany). In the exhibited model set-up, automated series treatment with atmospheric plasma was followed by a wettability check with Ayríís at the corresponding positions, with the results being synchronized and fully documented.
