The Lifocolor Group, based in Lichtenfels/Germany, is presenting new fine variants and sandstone looks of its granite masterbatches at the FAKUMA trade fair. The effect concentrates can also be seen in initial applications such as flat films, bottles, jars and caps. The effect masterbatches are ideally suited for the effective finishing of polymer packaging and products. They thus lend a timeless, sophisticated, and yet natural product design to consumer goods such as beauty and care, garden, household, furniture, sports, leisure, office and stationery segments, for example.

For fast-moving consumer goods at the point of sale, it is important to stand out quickyl from a wide range of products and in line with the principles of one’s brand. In addition to new trend colours, extraordinary features can make the difference in a purchasing decision. In markets where aesthetic design is a key focus, nature-inspired looks are in high demand when it comes to polymers in plastic products.

“We know from our business partners that many customers would like to see polymers with a stone or wood look that is as authentic as possible," says Marco Meixner, Head of Research and Development at Lifocolor Farben GmbH.

At the FAKUMA trade fair, the masterbatch company will be showcasing further developments of the granite masterbatch in finer formulations as well as the effect in initial applications such as flat films, bottles, caps and jars. Effect masterbatches for sandstone and cork looks will also be presented.

The effect masterbatches - whether for granite, sandstone or cork look - are suitable for polyolefins (PE, PP), engineering polymers (ABS, PMMA, TPE) and polystyrene (PS). A PS carrier also enables use in ABS, SAN, ASA and corresponding blends. All developments meet the requirements for approval for food contact at least in accordance with EU Regulation 10/2011, and in most cases also in in accordance with FDA. They can be processed using common injection and extrusion techniques at temperatures up to 280 degrees Celsius. The effect here can be achieved for other polymers on request – and depending on the feasibility of the process in each case.
