Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. and Toray Industries, Inc. have signed an agreement for technical collaboration in the market for OLED materials, expected to grow steadily in near future by the two parties. The companies have agreed on sharing their respective OLED technology and materials developed, and on evaluating and developing new materials in cooperation henceforward. Evaluation and production sites of the two Japanese specialists will be thus efficiently shared in order to improve product performance and reduce material costs.
Idemitsu is renowned for conducting research, developing, producing and supplying state-of-the-art luminescent, transport (electron transport and hole transport) and insulation materials for OLEDs aimed at TV and smartphone screens. Idemitsu's technologies for combinations of these cutting-edge materials have allowed for optimizing OLED display performance and life significantly. The company boasts proprietary molecular designs used extensively when developing new transport materials. In addition to their principal field of research, Idemitsu engineers create innovative materials aimed at flexible displays, the sector about to boom.
The OLED screen market itself has recently known a spectacular growth thanks to OLEDs being used in TVs and smartphones. The estimation is that in three years only, it will grow thrice its current size owing to investment initiatives of OLED screen producers from China and South Corea. Hi-tech OLED materials supplied by e.g. Idemitsu and Toray are hence increasingly in demand today. The agreement signed between the two developers will foster the progress of OLED screen industry through creation and marketing of new, improved OLED materials.
