24 Extrusion International 1/2024 24 INDUSTRY NEWS Statement on New Curbside Recycling Report Released The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) has released the fol- lowing statement on The Recycling Partnership’s State of Recycling re- port that examines the current state of residential recycling in the U.S. “This report reinforces what our industry has been saying: we need to recycle more, and we need everyone working together to increase recy- cling rates,” said PLASTICS’ President and CEO, Matt Seaholm. “Higher rates of recycling start with better communication and education re- garding the process of recycling, which are goals our Recycling is Real initiative is committed to achieving. The data from this report will en- able industry and policymakers to understand and better engage in- dividuals about the importance of the recycling process, ensuring more valuable recyclable material is cap- tured and reprocessed effectively.” “A crucial first step to improv - ing our recycling rates is having up-to-date data on recycling in the U.S.,” said PLASTICS’ Vice President of Sustainability, Patrick Krieger. “Prior to this report, the most re- cent recycling data we had was from six years ago. The Recycling Partnership’s data enables us to get a snapshot of our challenges and where we have been success- ful so that we know exactly what needs to get done to ensure more households participate in recycling across our country.” ICYMI: The North State Journal Featured Op-ed by PLASTICS CEO Matt Seaholm on Recycling is Real The North State Journal has fea- tured an op-ed written by Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) President and CEO, Matt Seaholm, defending plastic recycling and highlighting PLASTICS’ advocacy campaign, „Recycling is Real“. ““Recycling is real“. Tens of thou- sands of Americans go to work ev- ery day making it happen and that is exactly what this new initiative, „Recycling Is Real“, can show you. We have traveled across America and filmed ordinary people doing extraordinary things, including right here in North Carolina. We show that it is possible for that bottle you used today, or even the bum- per on your car from years past, to stay in our economy and out of the environment, giving it another life, sometimes more than once.” To read the full op-ed: https://nsjonline.com/article/2023/12/ seaholm-recycling-is-real/ New „Recycling is Real“ Video Released The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) has unveiled a new vid- eo as part of its advocacy campaign, „Recycling is Real“ , dedicated to promoting and defending plastic recycling in America.
